I received a DIGITAL Advance Reader Copy of this book from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

From the publisher-

The fascinating luminosity of colors from plants can be easily transferred to wool, silk, or other materials at home. Necessary materials, mordanting, the preparation of fibers and dye sources, and different dyeing methods are described in detail. This richly illustrated book also shows how the dyed materials can be felted or turned into woolen pictures. The traditional coloring of Easter eggs with natural colors or the coloring of the sun is also explained. Last but not least, the authors deal with trend-setting eco-printing.

I liked how the book started off with talking about disposable clothing (ala H&M) and how good quality clothing that lasts years and years is the sensible way to go. Dyeing, of course, started in a time when fabrics were natural and would absorb the dyes and that history is presented in a well-thought out form. As someone who has been dyeing with tea for years (and who recently has taken up flower-pounding as a way to embellish quilting muslin) the instructions for setting up your dyeing studio were kind of scary for a novice user. But as I read more, it seemed less daunting.

Most of the plants she mentions as dyes I would have zero idea on how to source but I did enjoy reading about the and their method. Not for the novice, this is nonetheless a great book if you are interested in non-toxic and natural dyeing methods.
