I received a DIGITAL Advance Reader Copy of this book from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
From the publisher - From a leader in the field of food education, this smart, fun, lavishly illustrated cookbook provides 50 kid-tested recipes that engage children's natural inclination for adventure and use fresh, seasonal ideas for breakfast, lunch, snacks, and sweets to teach basic cooking skills. New Favorites for New Cooks utilizes easy techniques and recipes to teach basic cooking skills to budding chefs through simple, delicious dishes that are appealing to children as well as adults. Recipes such as Savory Scones with Fresh Herb Butter, Black Bean Taco Bar, Two-Minute Guacamole, Meatballs and Tomato Sauce, and Yogurt and Berry Compote Parfait showcase healthy, seasonal ingredients and engage every sense with bright colors, fresh flavors, and exciting textures. Packed with information about kitchen science (like making pickles), garden ideas (like planting seeds from kitchen scraps and starting a compost bin), and heavily illustrated (every recipe is photographed), this cookbook makes being in the kitchen fun for everyone.
This is a FABULOUS book for kids and people who cannot'/do not cool, like my sister who cannot cook anything beyond flinging a can of cream of mushroom soup on top of a pan of pork chops --- shudder! Everything from using the right tools to being prepared for any disaster is covered. Some of the recipes look hard but broken down, they are easily made and readily devoured.
I can see using this ALL THE TIME in our food programs (especially those that teach adults who don't / can't cook to not rely on fast food or frozen pizza seven nights a week) but I would advise that perhaps it is for kids age 7-8+ as it seems a little difficult for a kindergarten-age child.
Great book!!!
