What a BEAUTIFUL BOOK!!!

From the publisher - London is the undisputed theatre capital of the world. From world-famous musicals to West End shows, from cutting-edge plays to Shakespeare in its original staging, from outdoor performance to intimate fringe theatre, the range and quality are unsurpassed. Leading theatre critic Michael Coveney invites you on a tour of forty-five theatres that make the London stage what it is.

Starting with the forward by Mark Rylance I was hooked -- THAT VOICE. I almost want an audiobook version so I can hear his voice but I doubt that work as this book is chock full of gorgeous photographs that do not translate into audio and sound. Oh, that accent!

I live in what I call "The Other London" .. the one in Canada ... and I would kill to live in the real London just for the theatre scene. The 45 theatres were wonderfully described and showing photos from "behind the scenes (like the lighting) were interesting as well.

As DVDs, Netflix, Hulu, VOD, etc. fulfill the entertainment needs of the masses I pray that these beautiful theatres continue to exist --- as a history buff I state that they NEED TO BE AROUND and NEED TO BE USED FOR THEIR PURPOSE. (IMHO).

Photography and history and theatre nuts will love this book and it would look smashing on your coffee table!

Thanks to netgalley, the author and the publisher for letting me read and review this book.

Just so you understand re: the accent on Mark Rylance ...
