I am a horrible cake decorator ... I am an excellent painter but my skills do not extend to cakes (I always think that because my hands are so warm all the time that it melts the frosting - I even bought those crazy "Russian" cake decorating tools on Amazon to cheat with and cannot get them to work. As a fan of the GBBO (Great British Bake Off), the contestant's skills are mad compared to mine but I was determined to make some kind of cake. So with Canadian Thanksgiving upon us, I decided to read this book and see if I could make anything near a Birthday Cake as two of our guests are having birthdays as well today! This book has some EXTREMELY COMPLICATED ways to decorate a cake but I was still able to make one with a simple patterned buttercream frosting as a result of reading this book. If you are looking for a show-stopping creation made with fondant or gum paste with cutouts THIS IS YOUR BOOK!!!! If you are just making a simple cake ... you may learn some skills here but this is for someone with mad skills and patience.

Thanks again to NetGalley for a temporary copy of this book to review and enjoy!!
